Green Healthy Neighborhoods

The Green Healthy Neighborhoods in Action (GHNA) project will bring to life a community plan called the Green Healthy Neighborhood (GHN) Land Use Plan. The GHNA project aim is to overcome obstacles related to lack of funding, community participation, and community expertise for effective implementation.


In partnership with the Peoples Gas Natural Gas Savings Program, the South East Chicago Commission will offer FREE energy efficiency assessments to businesses in Woodlawn and Washington Park communities.

The SECC will provide reimbursable grant assistance to businesses, churches, community organizations and other established businesses in Woodlawn and Washington Park. This program provides matching funds and rebates for energy-efficient property upgrades that reduce operating costs and energy consumption.

  • Property address in Woodlawn or Washington Park (60637 or 60621)
  • Completed energy assessment via the Peoples Gas Natural Gas Savings Program
  • Valid business license, if applicable
  • Proof of property ownership or letter of permission from owner


The maximum level of reimbursable grant assistance per business is $1,000. Smaller grant requests are preferred. Preference will be given to proposals that include matching grants from other sources. Online applications will be accepted between October 1, 2015 - May 1, 2016 or until funds have been exhausted.  Apply below or launch the application by clicking here.
