$40 Million Campaign for Stronger Neighborhoods

Friday, September 27, 2013

LISC Chicago announced its new Campaign for Stronger Neighborhoods, fundraising $40 million over the next three years.

On Tuesday, September 24, 2013, Executive Director Susana Vasquez shared the vision of the 30-year old organization with a large supporting audience at Little Black Pearl.  Embraced by support from Mayor Rahm Emanuel, 4th Ward Alderman Will Burns, QCDC and Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the campaign includes funding for the LISC Chicago Neighborhood Loan Fund, the Neighborhood Program Fund, and the Innovation and Engagement Fund.

Since its inception, LISC has invested more than $200 million in neighborhood development, ranging from affordable housing to recreational facilities to community safety and education initiatives. In 2012, LISC Chicago made 137 grants totaling $5.26 million and 11 loans worth $4.82 million.  This work was supported by 70 donors, foundations and government agencies, many of whom were present for the announcement.

By 2015, LISC Chicago's neighborhood network will reach almost 50% of Chicago community areas. More than $44 million in loans, grants and technical assistance will make 30-plus Chicago neighborhoods stronger and healthier.  More than 40,000 residents will be connected to skills education, employment, credit-building and health-benefit resources.
