Hyde Park Garden Fair - Fall Bulb and Mum Sale

The annual Hyde Park Garden Fair Fall Bulb and Mum Sale returns to the courtyard of the Hyde Park Shopping Center on Saturday, September 21.  Rain or shine, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, the best bulbs and mums you'll ever find will be on sale!

There will be the usual incredible assortment of narcissus and daffodils, tulips, crocuses, hyacinths, and specialty bulbs.  New additions this year will be Dutch Iris "Carmen," German Iris "Brazilian Holiday" and "Parisian Dawn," and Muscari "Peppermint."

This year you can count on a selection of squill (scilla), fritillaries, and five (5) kinds of alliums, including the gigantic "Globe Master."

Colorful chrysanthemums in every shade of red, yellow, bronze, burgundy, and white, make for a beautiful display of fall color on your porch or yard right up until Thanksgiving (if the weather cooperates).  You can also find seasonal perennials, the varieties that prefer fall planting rather than spring

A little advice for the “Grab and Go” crowd uninterested in digging and planting, be sure to arrive early before the indoor houseplants sell out!!

Fall Flea Market in Hyde Park

The residents and board of DARE (Disabled Adults Residential Enterprises, at 55th and Cornell) are sponsoring a Fall Flea Market on Saturday, September 28, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.  The planners are expecting at least 15 tables of goodies, offered by DARE residents as well as community groups and neighborhood residents from throughout Hyde Park.

Among the sellers, special invitations were extended to The Fair Trader, Laura Shaeffer from S.H.o.P., story-teller Judith Heineman, neighborhood church groups, and even "George's Vintage Collectibles.”  Stop by to meet George Rumsey!

Eight-foot tables are $30 each, with proceeds from the table rental going to support DARE. If you would like to be included, contact George at gwrumsey@att.net or at work at (773) 955-4455.

The 59th annual Hyde Park Used Book Sale is scheduled this year for Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 12-13-14. But the dropoff for used books is NOW, and will continue until the end of September, in the basement of Treasure Island.

The book sale always depends on volunteers to help sort and organize the books. If you'd like to volunteer, stop by the next time you are in Treasure Island. Or call HPKCC for more details (773-288-8343). Thanks to HPKCC and Treasure Island for continuing this great tradition!
