How Obamacare Affects Elderly & Uninsured

Community Grand Rounds is the premier program of the Center for Community Health and Vitality (CCHV). Community Grand Rounds is a series of events held in a community setting focusing on how the University of Chicago research can help improve health on the South Side. The series includes networking opportunities, formal presentations, and audience question and answer sessions on a variety of issues.


This proven format allows University investigators to talk with community members about existing research projects that can improve health and wellness. Series topics are determined by community members in partnership with University faculty.


The October 12, 2013 Community Grand Rounds will focus on the topic of the Affordable Care Act/ObamaCare.

Participants will hear a panel of experts on SIX aspects of the Affordable Care Act that will affect older adults and the uninsured beginning October 1, 2013.  Afterwards, attendees will have an opportunity to join smaller break-out groups in which they can address their questions about the Affordable Care Act to panelists and small group facilitators.

Topics will include: 

1. Access to Insurance and Health Care

2. Coverage of Preventive Care

3. Insurance Exchange Options

4. Coordination of Care

5. Coverage for Pharmaceuticals

6. Advocacy for Legislation


In-Person Counselors will be on site to enroll individuals in new coverage options and affordability programs!


Refreshments will be served starting at 1:00PM. Event will start promptly at 1:30PM. Early arrival is strongly suggested. Parking is available on the street and the south side of the building.
