Hyde Park Jazz Festival Announces

New Listening Sessions Program!

Thurs., December 5th at 6:00 pm
Logan Center Performance Penthouse
Free of Charge. Open to the Public.
Featuring Rudresh Mahanthappa
Award Winning Alto Saxophonist and Composer

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hang out listening to records with great jazz musicians? Well, at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival office we wonder (and dream) about this all the time! There are few better opportunities to learn about the art form than from listening with great players, and hearing them share the inside stories about making music: ensemble work, technique, influences, ideas and more. We are very excited to partner with University of Chicago Presents' Jazz at the Logan to invite you to come talk, listen (and hang out) with some of the internationally acclaimed artists performing in the 2013-2014 Jazz at the Logan performance series.

So what is it? The Listening Sessions program is a casual, up close opportunity to listen to the music and stories of jazz from inside the practice of great jazz artists. We invite you to come relax, listen to records, ask questions, and get inside the music in an intimate, casual environment. The Listening Sessions are free and we invite listeners of all ages and levels of experience to join us. No reservation or ticket is required. Just join us! The Logan Center cafe will be open should you wish to make a purchase. See below for information on the Logan Center location.

"Listening Sessions" kicks off on Thursday, December 5th from 6pm-7pm. Hyde Park Jazz Festival Director, Kate Dumbleton, will talk with the remarkable composer and musician, Rudresh Mahanthappa, about who and what has helped shape his approach to creating music and listen to some of his favorite recordings. Rudresh will perform with his Gamak group on Friday, December 6th in the Logan Performance Hall at 7:30pm.

For more information about the Logan Center location, ticket sales for Gamak's performance on December 6th, and the entire Jazz at Logan season, please click Jazz at the Logan.

The next "Listening Sessions" will be on Thursday, March 6th with trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusrie. Save the date!
