65th Street Water Main Shut Down

Alderman Willie Cochran's office has been informed that the water main on 65th Street between Cottage Grove and Drexel will be shut down on Monday, June 24, 2013.

Movies in the Park: Daddy Day Care

Event: Thursday, June 27, 2013 - As a preview to the upcoming Hyde Park Jazz Festival this September, the public is invited to enjoy a reception and open bar (wine & beer) in the Logan Center’s beautiful Performance Penthouse & great jazz in the state-of-the-art Performance Hall. The improvisational jazz genius, Etienne Charles, will dazzle you with a special performance. Reception begins at 6:00 pm.

The 25th Annual L.A.T.E. Ride

Event: Friends of the Parks’ L.A.T.E. Ride is a 25 mile, fun-filled tour of Chicago offering a unique nocturnal experience. The LATE Ride starts at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 30 at the Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park (Columbus and Congress Avenues). From there, the course follows a route that winds through a dozen of Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods including Chinatown, Little Italy, Greektown, Bucktown, Humboldt Park and Lincoln Square, culminating in a sunrise trek down the Lakefront Trail.

DuSomething Green for Arts and Crafts Festival 2013

EVENT: DuSomething Green! is theme for the DuSable Museum's 39TH ANNUAL ARTS & CRAFT FESTIVAL. The Festival is a showcase for local artists, an exhibition of fine art and unique and hand-crafted work which features artists working in traditional, ethnic and experimental fine arts and crafts that relate to African-American themes, identity, history and culture. The public is invited to attend Saturday and Sunday, July 13 & 14, 2013.

Business Workshops for June 2013

Flying Squirrel Playlot Will Receive New Playground

Flying Squirrel Playlot Park, 6600 S. Woodlawn Ave, is ready for new improvements and upgrades! The park has been approved for new playground equipment. The goal is to bring the best possible playground experience to the children from the available options of equipment sets. Additional improvements to address seating and fencing are still being discussed.

Harper Theater Features Oscar Brown Film Tribute

EVENT: On Sunday, June 16, the New Harper Theater will host a special film screening tribute to a unique jazz artist and political activist, Oscar Brown Jr. As a Father’s Day Celebration, the Coalition for Equitable Community Development (CECD) and renowned songstress Maggie Brown present the film “Music is My Life; Politics My Mistress: The Oscar Brown, Jr. Story.”
