Business Workshops for June 2013

The Department of Business Affairs & Consumer Protection (BACP) offers workshops every Wednesday and Friday. All workshops are free, and open to the public. Workshops are held at BACP's offices located at 121 N. LaSalle St., City Hall Room 805, Chicago, IL 60602.


Flying Squirrel Playlot Will Receive New Playground

Flying Squirrel Playlot Park, 6600 S. Woodlawn Ave, is ready for new improvements and upgrades! The park has been approved for new playground equipment. The goal is to bring the best possible playground experience to the children from the available options of equipment sets. Additional improvements to address seating and fencing are still being discussed.


Harper Theater Features Oscar Brown Film Tribute

EVENT: On Sunday, June 16, the New Harper Theater will host a special film screening tribute to a unique jazz artist and political activist, Oscar Brown Jr. As a Father’s Day Celebration, the Coalition for Equitable Community Development (CECD) and renowned songstress Maggie Brown present the film “Music is My Life; Politics My Mistress: The Oscar Brown, Jr. Story.”


57th Street Art Fair June 1 and 2

The Art Fair is FREE and open to the public. 57th Street Art Fair takes place on 57th Street, Between Kenwood and Kimbark Avenues.


Proposed Tax Payments for new SSA

The South East Chicago Commission released a database of properties that will participate in the proposed SSA contributions. Tax payments are outlined by property PIN# and are available for download. The goal of a Special Service Area designation in Hyde Park is to create and maintain a vibrant, pedestrian friendly business district that reflects the culture and history of Hyde Park while serving local residents and visitors.


63rd Street Community Meeting

EVENT: The community meeting for the 63rd Street Corridor Transit Oriented Development Study, will be held on Thursday, May 23rd from 6-8pm at the Apostolic Church of God (6320 South Dorchester Ave.). You are invited to interact directly with city officials and the design team by offering your own thoughts on the future of the 63rd Street Corridor.


Special Service Area Public Meetings in May

Two public meetings to discuss the proposed Special Service Area (SSA) will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday May 22 and 7 p.m. Thursday May 30, both at Kenwood Academy’s little theater, 5105 S. Blackstone Ave.


Drop In Pilot Program for Hyde Park Seniors

The Chicago Hyde Park Village (CHPV) is a neighborhood-wide effort to provide supportive services to Hyde Park residents as they grow older in order to ensure they are able to continue to live in the community. CHPV will launch a "drop-in" pilot program for seniors living in Hyde Park


CTA Closes Redline South for Reconstruction

Starting Sunday, May 19, the CTA Red Line (Dan Ryan portion) will be closed for five months, for reconstruction. During construction, Red Line trains will continue to serve the South Side, via the Green Line. Red Line trains will share track and stations with Green Line trains between 35th-Bronzeville-IIT and Ashland/63rd.
