The South East Chicago Commission Partners with Peoples Gas for the Green Healthy Neighborhoods in Action Energy Efficiency Program for Businesses

CHICAGO (November 2015) – The South East Chicago Commission (SECC) is launching its Green Healthy Neighborhoods in Action’s (GHNA) Energy Efficiency Business Reimbursement Program in a new partnership with Peoples Gas. Funded by the Searle Funds of The Chicago Community Trust, the program offers free energy efficiency assessments to businesses, churches, community organizations and other established businesses in the Woodlawn and Washington Park communities. These assessments identify natural gas-saving opportunities and rebates available to pursue efficiency upgrades.  Examples of eligible upgrades include: High-efficiency HVAC and water heating equipment, steam traps, and insulation. Businesses that complete an assessment and apply for additional assistance may receive small reimbursable upgrade grants from the SECC. The program is designed to help businesses become more energy efficient and reduce operating costs.

Businesses applying for the Energy Efficiency Business Reimbursement Program must:

  • Be located in Woodlawn or Washington Park (Zip Codes: 60637, 60621)
  • Complete an online Energy Efficiency Business Reimbursement Program application
  • Complete a free energy assessment and installation of free energy-saving products through the Peoples Gas Natural Gas Savings Program
  • Provide a copy of the recommendation report from the free energy assessment in your grant application
  • Provide copy of business license, if applicable
  • Provide proof of building ownership if you are the owner and/or proof of permission, certified in writing, from property owner authorizing repairs
  • Since this is a reimbursable grant, business are required to pay for any upgrade costs out of pocket and submit for reimbursement once approved
  • Qualifying businesses will be awarded reimbursable funds on a first come, first served basis
  • Upgrades do not have to be complete at the time of application—however, prior to any reimbursement, businesses must provide receipts for the upgrades completed
