Wednesday, August 26, 2015

The SECC welcomes University of Chicago Public Interest Program (UCPIP) Fellow, Alexander "Xander" Wikstrom, as the new Economic Development Coordinator to the SECC team for a 1-year fellowship!
Prior to starting at SECC, he interned for the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, where he created a best practices guide for public artwork in plazas for public artists commissioned through the city’s Percent for Art program. Xander has also interned with Architecture for Humanity – Chicago, where he assisted in developing a community redevelopment plan with residents of Altgeld Gardens.

In 2015,  Xander graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Geographical Studies from the University of Chicago. As the Economic Development Coordinator at SECC, Xander has implemented a streetscape project on 51st Street in
Bronzeville, and plans on implementing two more in our neighborhoods to attract foot traffic to our business corridors. He also works directly with the  SECC's Neighborhood Business Development Center and regularly consults people wishing to open businesses or existing business owners in the SECC footprint. Welcome aboard!
