Business District Improvement
Business owners are focused on staying competitive. The Business District Program is designed to support the growth and sustainability of our businesses and the employees that work in our communities.
The Woodlawn Business Corridor Improvement Grant Program focuses on reinvesting in the neighborhood’s small businesses through beautifying retail corridors. This initiative is a partnership between the South East Chicago Commission, the University of Chicago Office of Civic Engagement, and 20th Ward Alderman Willie Cochran.
The program is intended for small business owners or property owners who may be limited in their funding available which will help them to leverage funds in order to upgrade, preserve or restore their storefronts, display windows or install creative new signage. There are several distinct goals project applicants seeking assistance will need to accomplish with their project and in order to receive funding.
- Nurture a pleasant and safe environment for residents, visitors, patrons and businesses;
- Preserve, restore and accentuate the architectural heritage of Woodlawn;
- Foster a visually attractive urban environment which will showcase local establishments;
- Display the cultural, economic and historical diversity that Woodlawn is known for.
Winning proposals can be awarded up to $5,000. Funds will be awarded on a rolling basis and applications will be accepted until all funds are dispersed. Learn more and download details below:
