Mesa Development LLC has proposed a mixed-used building to redevelop

the University of Chicago-owned property at 1330 E. 53rd Street.

The new building, called Vue53, would include 267 units of high-quality rental housing,

229 parking spaces, and about 28,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

The project will achieve LEED Silver certification, consistent with the University of Chicago's

commitment to sustainability property building and development.

The Project will include:

  • 218 parking spaces
  • 128 bicycle spaces
  • 20% of housing units will be affordable (27 units)
  • 15% of the units will be on-site, 5% off-site

This Planned Development (PD) project will be financed entirely by private funding,

and will not involve any TIF funding.  In fact, the project is estimated to raise

approximately $7.7 million in TIF increment for the 53rd Street TIF, which can eventually

be leveraged for other community improvements.

The Vue53 Proposal is widely supported by the community.
