Redevelopment Projects

"Please Excuse the Dust!" Our goal is to make the “Heart of Hyde Park” a vibrant, mixed-use main street that serves the needs of both Hyde Park and surrounding neighborhoods.

Along with new options for shopping, dining and entertainment, ongoing redevelopment activity in Hyde Park’s 53rd Street commercial corridor has brought new jobs, increased investment and new opportunities to the local community.

The 53rd Street TIF District Advisory Council has been the nucleus behind the collective efforts of the University of Chicago, local organizations, property developers, and community members building and executing a new vision for 53rd Street.

Major 53rd Street Redevelopment Projects Include:

HARPER COURT
Developed in partnership with the University of Chicago and the City of Chicago, Harper Court is a two-phase, 1.1 million square foot mixed-use development located at 53rd Street and Lake Park Avenue in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood.

VUE53 (PROPOSED PROJECT BY MESA DEVELOPMENT)
Mesa Development LLC has proposed a mixed-used building to redevelop the University of Chicago-owned property at 1330 E. 53rd Street. The new building, called Vue53, would include 267 units of high-quality rental housing, 229 parking spaces, and about 28,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
