PARKING

There is a surface lot on the West side of Harper Ave—right across the street from Harper Court that has 50 parking spaces. There is parking available on the Harper Court private drive, the interior street in the middle of the property which can accommodate about 20 cars in the form of pay box parking and a 15 minute loading zone. Additionally, Harper Court also has a public parking garage on Lake Park Avenue between 53rd street and 52nd street—there are two levels of parking with over 220 spaces available.

PUBLIC ACCESS

The Hyde Park neighborhood is connected to the rest of the city by both Chicago Transit Authority buses and Metra's Electric Line.

CTA buses allow transfers to Red andGreen Line trains to the Loop, and they also provide direct express service to the downtown.

Metra's Electric Line, located on the tracks of the former Illinois Central Railroad, has several stops in Hyde Park and provides service to Millennium Station in the downtown.

SERVICE DETAILS

Metra Commuter Rail Service
The 51st/53rd Street (Hyde Park) Metra station on the Metra Electric District Line is located at E. 53rd Street/S. Lake Park Avenue four blocks east of the site. The Metra Electric District Line provides daily service between the Millennium Station in downtown Chicago and Blue Island, University Park and the South Chicago station at 93rd Street in Chicago. Service at the 51st/53rd Street station is provided between 5:18 A.M. and 1:03 A.M. on weekdays and Saturdays, and between 5:13 A.M. and 1:08 A.M. on Sundays and major holidays.

Neighborhood CTA Bus Service
Through a contract with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), the University of Chicago
provides daily bus service on Routes 171 and 172 from 7:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. between the Hyde Park neighborhood, Metra stations and University campus. The service, which operates on 5-10 minute headways on weekdays and 30-minute headways on weekends, is available for free to faculty, staff and students showing a University identification card, and is available to other community residents that pay the normal CTA fare. As shown in Figure 7, Route 171 stops at E. 55th Street/S. Kenwood Avenue two blocks south of the site and Route 172 stops at E. 53rd Street/S. Woodlawn Avenue one block west of the site.

NightRide Evening Shuttle Service
The University of Chicago provides free NightRide Evening Shuttle Service throughout the Hyde Park-Kenwood neighborhood consisting of four routes run by an outside contractor. The buses operate daily from 5:00 P.M.-4:00 A.M. on Sunday through Wednesday and from 5:00 P.M.-6:00 A.M. on Thursday through Saturday, departing from the transit hub at 57th Street and University Avenue on 15-minute headways from 5:00 P.M.-1:00 A.M. and on 30-minute headways after 1:00 A.M. Use of this shuttle service is limited to University and Medical Center faculty, staff, and students and requires appropriate identification to board. The East (Green) route travels eastbound along E. 53rd Street, past the site, with a regular stop at E. 53rd Street/S. Kimbark Avenue, as shown in Figure 3 and Figure 8. The University advises that this route will stop at the front door of the building.

Future Daytime Shuttle Service
The University of Chicago is planning a new daytime shuttle service along E. 53rd Street that will operate on a regular schedule and connect the Harper Court development with the campus. The University advises that this route will also stop at the front door of the proposed development at 1330 E. 53rd Street.
